Prompt:

If the world worked on a barter system, how would you fare? Would you have services to barter? Would you be successful, or would you struggle?

Post:

If the world worked on a barter system, I’d be way more wealthy than I am right now.

I am so much richer than the balance in my bank account.

For starters, I would have eggs to trade.  I’ve got three good layers right now, which means I’m getting a dozen eggs every five or six days.

Then there’s the hens themselves.  Just need to obtain a rooster, or a stud rooster’s services, and BAM!  I would have chicks to trade.

And don’t forget the chickens’ poop.  When composted, it makes fantastic garden fertilizer.

Speaking of gardens, I can garden like no one’s business.  I could teach people how to garden, or I could trade the vegetables I grow.  We’ve got fruit, too.  I have a patch of raspberry bushes, a (very small) plum tree in the front yard, and a stand of sour cherry trees in the schoolyard across the street (that I totally pilfer when no one’s watching).

Speaking of fruits and vegetables, I’m also pretty awesome at canning.  In fact, I still have about twenty jars of preserves downstairs to eat up before it’s time to start canning again.

I knit and crochet.  I don’t have a clue how to spin yarn, but if someone wanted to trade me yarn, I could make them something in return.

I could teach a number of things if I had to (even though I despise teaching):  pole dancing, gardening, knitting, crocheting, music, chicken husbandry, and of course, acting.

Hell, bring on the Zombie apocalypse!  I’m ready to re-build the world.  Let’s get this barter system thing going!
