It’s been a whole month since I last blogged. I really needed a break. I didn’t even think about my blog for the first couple weeks. But soon enough, it started to creep back into my consciousness. We’d be doing something with the chickens or the garden and my first thought would be, “I need to get a good picture for the blog.” I did miss it. What I don’t miss is firing up my old brick of a laptop, which takes about ten minutes to get going, in order to blog. From now on, I will be blogging on my iPad mini, until someday in the far future I can afford to buy a new laptop. What this means is that I need an external keyboard to type on the mini because it’s really difficult to type properly with the onscreen keyboard. And then I get frustrated, and I no longer want to blog. So if anyone has any recommendations for a keyboard, please leave me a comment.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

October 14 to 20

Our garage was demolished. Ding dong the witch is dead. We hoped to have a new one built before the snow arrived. Alas, that didn’t happen. Now it’ll have to wait until Spring.

I made pumpkin soup. Delicious. I have declared this the winter of soups.

I walked two of the cutest dogs on the planet – Teddy and Willy

October 21 to 27

Just when I thought I knew all there was to know about backyard chickens, Scruff pooped out what looked to be rice noodles. Weird, I thought. Then I realized they were worms. Thankfully, we have a feed store very close to our house, and I was able to treat her right away, and the rice noodle problem cleared up immediately. I’ll spare you the graphic photos.

October 28 to November 3

Two new girls join the flock! We got them from a farmer about ten minutes outside the city. We have no idea what breed they are. They are really beautiful mutts. There must be some silkie in them because they grow feathers on their legs. They are adjusting well. Ginger has been a bit relentless, but things are starting to calm down, and the pecking order is working itself out. They have no names, but because they are so colourful, I’m referring to them as the techno twins. That may change yet.

I started rehearsals for The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon on November 1st, and on November 3rd, I went to see the Dixie Chicks. Natalie Maines inspired me to cut my hair even shorter. I just got home from Zumba, and I’m a sweaty mess, so I’ll post a photo of my new ‘do when I look better.

November 4 to 10

I made Meyer lemon marmalade, and discovered that I love homemade marmalade. Also made a batch of Mandarin orange jam.
Canning season apparently has no end. There are things to can all year long!

The police called me to do a video interview and meet with a sketch artist regarding the idiot who exposed himself to me in the park. Ugh.

Bought apples at the farmers market. Hope to store them for a few months.

Enjoyed the long weekend, and now I’m back in rehearsal, working on my curling skills.

And that’s a month in my life, folks. It’s good to be back.

P.S. I’m playing Marie Antoinette in Black Bonspiel. Wait til you see my wig!
