I am trying to clean up the house before I start Spring cleaning.  As in, deal with all those little rats’ nests in each room.  You know, those piles of things you really don’t want to deal with right now, so you just stick them in the corner?  Or company’s coming over, so you hide your excess junk in another room, and then it languishes away, never to be touched again?  I have a number of these little rats’ nest around the house, but the worst is in my office.

In the corner of my office lies the “unfinished projects” rats’ nest.

One of these projects was my cheese grater tray. It took me about four years to finally finish this project.

I bought a couple of old cheese graters at a flea market years ago, not really having any idea what I wanted to do with them, but I loved the way they looked.

Then I stumbled upon this book,Decorating Junk Market Style, and lo and behold, they had a project using three old cheese graters!  I only had two at the time, so it took another year or so to find a third cheese grater (got it for “two bits” at an auction house – seriously, I asked how much, and the old guy looked at me and said, “Two bits.”  It took a second for me to realize that was only $.25  What a bargain!).

And then another two years before I bought the rest of the necessary parts.

And then another six months for them to sit in the corner of my office in a Home Depot bag waiting to be assembled.

But it’s done now.  It looks awesome.  Here it is in all its vintage cheese grater glory.  I can hardly wait to use it at a dinner party.

And my “unfinished projects” rats’ nest is now down to ONE unfinished project.  That’s right.  Only ONE!  It feels so good.
