My food philosophy: local (when possible), whole, and if animal, raised and butchered humanely.
I made yogurt in my hotel room last night. These are the lengths I will go to. Was happy (and surprised) to find quite a few local foods for sale at the grocery store. And tonight, when I went out for supper with the cast, there was a burger on the menu made with local beef.
Perhaps the food industry is really starting to change after all.

Just got home after a week on the road and wish I had been as good as you. Just not many choices out there. I did bring fruits and veggies from home for the hotel refrig. Tell us more about the hotel-made yoghurt.
It’s really difficult when you aren’t familiar with the local food sources in a different city. I’ll go into more detail about the yogurt in Monday’s post, just for you 🙂
I absolutely love that you made yogurt in your hotel room. Partly because – holy crap, awesome! Also, I’ve never made yogurt. It seems like something I should have done by this point in my life.
I’m thinking of, in February, making a commitment to only eat things that have been grown or produced within 10 miles of me. Well, with the additions of coffee and tea, because I absolutely require those things.
I’ve had this crazy idea lately that I’d like to try a “homesteader’s diet.” As in, only eat what I grow and what others around me grow, with the addition of coffee, tea, sugar, and any other thing that may have been imported and available at a general store. I think that means saying goodbye to things like avocados and oranges though, and I’m not sure i could handle that . . .
Does my pizza count? If not, I’m out.
You’d have to make your own. Panagos doesn’t count as local food.
