I was feeling a bit low on holiday spirit last week, so I knew it was time to blast cheesey, lounge-type Xmas carols and put up a few decorations.
Twinkly lights – check; tiny Xmas tree – check; Cool Yule, Disc I, II and III – check, check, check. Singing carols and decorating the tree usually does the trick. Afterwards, I’m feeling happy and generous and full of holiday cheer.
If decorating and singing fails, there’s always Bailey’s as a back up.
What do you do to get into the Xmas spirit?
[N.B. on the use of “Xmas” – I know some people get upset when they see this. I’m not a Christian, so it doesn’t bother me. It’s just an easier, quicker way to type Christmas. However, it shouldn’t bother Christians either. According to Wikipedia, “the “X” comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός, translated as “Christ.”]

I’m all about the christmas/yule/insert your holiday of choice here baking. I do 2 or 3 types of cookies, shortbread, butter tarts, buns, cinnamon buns, a chocolate crispix mix and sometimes other stuff to.
Yes! Baking! I forgot about baking. That totally works up some good ‘ole holiday spirit.
I’m hoping to be part of a cookie exchange this year – might find some new recipes. Butter tarts are a classic. I make with just brown sugar gooey filling – no raisins or nuts. I tried shortbread a couple years ago. It was heavy as lead. I did something wrong. I leave the bread-type baking to Will – he’s the pro bread-baker in the house.
Time to blast some more carols and heat up the oven. Thanks for the reminder!
I have felt like a loser/failure this year re: Christmas decorations. For real! I love Christmas, but it was a chore just to get the tree up this year for some reason (I watched Home Alone while putting up the tree this year). I know some sparkly lights would make me feel better…
Yeah, I don’t do a whole lot of decorating because it is such a chore, to put up AND take down. But I do love me some twinkly lights. Actually, I love twinkly lights all year round, not just at Christmas. My patio is covered in sparkly lights.
